Siegfried Foessel received his Diploma degree (MS) in Electronic Engineering in 1989. He started his professional career as an engineer at the Fraunhofer Institute IIS in Erlangen. From 1994 to 2000 he was manager for the business fields process automation and image processing systems. In 2000 he received his Ph.D. degree. Since 2001 he is project manager and coordinator for the business field digital cinema within the Fraunhofer IIS. Examples of these projects are:
- the development of new high resolution cameras like the ARRI D20
- standardisation activities of new data compression algorithms (JPEG2000) for digital cinema
- development of new storage devices for digital cinema
- coordinator and manager of EU projects like WorldScreen.
- project manager of the DCI compliance test plan project
Siegfried has experience as coordinator and manager of various major projects with public and industrial research partners. He is member of SMPTE, FKTG, DIN and EDCF. Within the ISO JPEG group he chairs the adhoc groups for digital cinema and Motion JPEG2000.
